Understanding by Design Stage 1:
The first step in using the UbD model for curriculum design is determining what the adult wants the student to learn. What is the big idea that you want the student to understand?
This "big idea" should be extracted from the content standards, common core curriculum and/or the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) developmentally appropriate practices.
In essence, UbD will assist you in creating a learning experience that will facilitate the child being able to transfer the learning for enhanced critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making.
